Grandad Keith's Artwork

Over the festive break I managed to photograph my Grandad's artwork and put it in a video for everyone to enjoy, and family to remember.

Reading Bug 2017!

In 2015 I read a total of 57 books, and my goal was 40 - this was awesome.
In 2016 I read 48 books, and my goal was 50 - Oh so close but still awesome.

During 2017 I decided to set my goodreads goal to be 30, just to take a little bit of the pressure off and hopefully be able to achieve my goal.

My 2017 reading list
(All books are marked out of 5*)

-January-
-May-

-November-
Nothing :(

-December-
Amulet V4 The Last Council by Kazu Kibuishi
****
Amulet V5 Prince of the Elves
****
Amulet V6 Escape from Lucien by Kazu Kibuishi
****

As usual I had a great start to reading this year and then it sort of faded out towards the end. I still beat my target of 30 though so that's great! By far the best series I read this year was the waking gods / sleeping giants by Sylvain Neuvel just try them you will not be disappointed if you like sci fi, and the best graphic novel series I read was Y the Last Man by Brian K Vaughan - absolutely fantastic and I could not recommend enough to comic readers!

Here's to 2018 and a whole new year of reading.

Witches Sketchbook

This year I worked on two collab sketchbooks with @juliacusworth.

This sketchbook was rather different for me although the theme was witches I drew more witch related objects and themes and of course keeping the cutesy style, lots of skulls and potions and I particularly loved the quotes.

My favourite page and the last, these pastel coloured skulls finish the book off so well.

PHz Cocktail competition character

This quirky character was created for a friend, for a cocktail drinks competition.
The brief was to create a cute Jiangshi (translated as Chinese hoping zombie/vampire/ghost).
The competition was based around a brand of rum named Plantation, and I used the colours of their label in the robes and hat of the zombie character and a pose that said cheers!

The Wes Anderson Sketchbook

During July and half of August I was working on The Wes Anderson Sketchbook.
It's a collaborative sketchbook with another very talented artist @jules_tea
I've completed the first half of the sketchbook and its down to Julia to complete the second half.

(Darjeeling Limited wallpaper pattern and movie colour palette made using my faithful Kuretake gansai tambi 36 pan watercolour set, and the luggage drawn with a black fine liner pen.)

(Darjeeling brothers drawn with black fine liner pen layered over the top of a colour crayon background, and a watercolour pattern cut out luggage spread)

Throughout this sketchbook I've used a variety of mixed media tools.
Pencil, pens, crayons, coloured pens, inks and watercolours.

(Copic markers, black fine liner & pencil pages representing The Grand Budapest Hotel)

(Acrylic paint for Jacqueline Deep Search)

My style is very graphic, and I have tried to focus on patterns, icons and colours to represent the bold style choices of Wes Anderson movies.

(Winsor & Newton Inks in shades violet, brick red and indian black ink)

(Crayola pencil crayons)

(Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolours)

I've tried to look at multiple Wes Anderson movies and create pieces to represent my favourite movies.

(Black indian ink & watercolours)

(Copic markers & fine liner pens)

These last couple of pages are my favourite, a portrait of Steve Zissou and a multicoloured seahorse both from The Life Aquatic.
